Quebec is a minor faction in Empire: Total War. It is an emergent faction and emerges in New France.

General Information

Quebec emerges when the non-American faction controlling New France (usually France or Great Britain is eliminated. It usually comes into conflict with the United States or Great Britain should either be present, and is often subsequently eliminated due to its passive nature and minor starting lands.

History

Quebec is a historically Catholic region that was originally a part of the territories held by the French in North America. During the Seven Years' War (also known as the French and Indian War in the United States, or "La guerre de la Conquête" by French Canadians), Quebec fell to British troops. The loss of Quebec by France and its gain by Great Britain were formally recognized after the war. Great Britain then faced the juggling act of placating both the existing Catholic French Canadians, and the ever-increasing ambitions of their own, Protestant American subjects. Their policies led in part to the unrest that gave birth to the American Revolution some two decades later. Quebec (and Canada as a whole), on the other hand, remained part of the British domain and is a part of the British Commonwealth in the modern day. Due to cultural, political, economic and language differences with the rest of Canada, some of the Quebecer population seeks independence to this day.
